Note on using thin fabrics: 

On the shoulder ties, thin fabrics benefit from a double thickness. Use a contrast fabric to cut a second pair of ties. Right sides together, stitch each tie-and-contrast together along outer edges. Turn right side out and press--they are now hemmed. Follow instructions to finish.
